Marysville Mathematics Vision

In Marysville Schools, our math instruction cultivates a community of critical thinkers, problem solvers, and lifelong learners. Our commitment is to provide every student with a comprehensive and equitable mathematics education that empowers them to excel academically and be future ready for an ever-evolving world.

Mathematics Instructional Framework

The implementation of a district-wide math framework is imperative to ensure a cohesive, comprehensive, and standards-aligned approach to mathematics education. This framework will serve as the guiding document that outlines the district's vision, goals, and strategies for fostering student achievement and growth in mathematics.

While implementing the best instructional practices outlined in our math frameworks, Marysville Schools adheres to Ohio's Learning Standards for Mathematics, ensuring a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum.

Early Numeracy Skills

Early numeracy skills are crucial for children because they provide the foundational knowledge and understanding of mathematical concepts that are built upon as they progress through their education. By fostering a positive and engaging environment for learning numeracy, parents and educators can empower children to become confident, capable learners in mathematics and beyond.

Early Numeracy Skills

  • Subitizing - The ability to instantly recognize the number of objects without actually counting them.

  • Stable Order - Saying the number words in order.

  • One to One Correspondence - Ability to match a number word to objects.

  • Cardinality - How Many? The number used for the last object in a count symbolizes the total number of objects in a set.

  • Ordinality - The capacity to place numbers in a sequence

  • Written Numerals

Building early numeracy skills in children can be a fun and engaging process that parents can incorporate seamlessly into everyday activities. See the document linked below for some creative ways to foster numeracy skills at home, whether you're playing games, reading books, or driving in the car. Remember to keep these activities age-appropriate and enjoyable. The goal is to make learning about numbers and math a natural part of your child's daily experiences, promoting a positive attitude toward numeracy from an early age.
