Navin's School Counseling Team

Navin is fortunate to have two counselors to serve our students.
Mrs. Aslaner has been involved in the counseling profession for 27 years and 13 of those years have been with the Marysville School District. Prior to coming to Marysville, Mrs. Aslaner worked as a high school college placement counselor at a Florida private college preparatory school and as a college admissions/ financial aid coordinator at various universities in Ohio and Florida. Her bachelors degree is from Capital University and her masters degree is from the University of North Florida.
Mr. Jennings joins the counseling team this school year after he and his family moved to Ohio from Florida for his wife's job at Scott's. Mr. Jennings was a School Counselor and Dean of Students with the Palm Beach School District. He and his wife have a 22 month year old son. We are thrilled to have his expertise.

Mrs. Aslaner will be at Navin on Monday afternoons and Thursdays.  Mr. Jennings will be at Navin on Wednesdays and Fridays.  If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach Mr. Jennings or Mrs. Aslaner in the counseling office at

937-578-7006. We look forward to a fantastic 2018-19 school year!

What do elementary school counselors do?

  • Teach classroom guidance lessons

  • Facilitate short-term small group counseling

  • Provide immediate and short-term individual counseling

  • Work collaboratively with teachers and staff

  • Consult with parents

  • Provide information and/or referrals for community resources to families

Why do we need elementary school counselors?

  • A deliberate and comprehensive approach to teaching children social and emotional skills can raise their grades and test scores, increase enthusiasm for learning, reduce behavior problems, and enhance cognitive functioning.

  • Students who receive social skills instruction do better academically and socially but the reverse is not true (academic instruction does not increase  social/emotional skills).

  • There is a strong connection between emotions and learning. Students who can recognize and manage strong emotions are better learners.

  • Students who attend schools with a comprehensive guidance program do significantly better on standardized tests than students who attend schools without a comprehensive guidance program.

  • Elementary school years set the tone for developing the knowledge, attitudes and skill necessary for children to become healthy, competent and confident learners. Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, school counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success.
