Ohio's New State Assessments
 Marysville Families and Staff:

I wanted to take a moment and provide a quick update regarding Ohio's state assessments as there have been quite a few changes over the last several months due to the state budget being passed.

Here are the top four things you need to know about Ohio's state assessments:

1. NEW STATE TESTS - ONE TESTING WINDOW
Instead of two testing windows like last year, Ohio will only have one testing window for students and staff. This change will significantly protect instructional time.

Marysville Schools will follow the schedule outlined below for grades 3-10 online state assessments for ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies which will take place Spring 2016:

April 11 - 29 = ELA (English Language Arts)
April 18 - May 6 = Math, Science and Social Studies

2.  NEW STATE TESTS - ONE TESTING COMPANY
Ohio will no longer be associated with PARCC.  Ohio will utilize one testing company, AIR, for the grades 3-10 online assessments.  AIR stands for the American Institutes for Research.

AIR was the testing company utilized during the 2014-2015 school year for Ohio's online Science and Social Studies assessments.  The AIR testing platform was reliable and more student and staff friendly when compared to PARCC.

3.  THIRD GRADE READING GUARANTEE
Grade 3 students will have multiple opportunities to earn a "promotion" score based on Ohio's Third Grade Reading Guarantee requirements throughout this school year.  The new third grade ELA online assessment will take the place of the Reading OAA which will no longer be administered.

Marysville third graders will have their first opportunity to earn a "promotion" score during the week of December 7, 2015.

Further information and details regarding the grade 3 ELA assessment will be provided later in September.

4.  THE OGT STILL COUNTS
Students who are currently in grades 11 and 12 will need to meet the requirements of passing all five sections of the OGT (Ohio's Graduation Test) in order to receive a diploma.

For grades 10 and below, students will need to meet the state's new graduation requirements.

Graduation requirements for students in grades 11 & 12  and grades 10 & below can be found on the Ohio Department of Education website at:

We will continue to communicate updates as they become available.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's principal and/or guidance counselor.

Make it a great day,
