All BMS students will be taking state mandated achievement tests.Students have been preparing diligently all year. These tests are a vital part of our district’s state accountability measures and you can help in the following ways:
Make sure students arrive at school promptly at 7:10 a.m.
Do not schedule outside appointments during the morning of testing days. Testing is scheduled to run until 10:50 a.m.
Make sure students get a good night's sleep before testing days
Make sure students eat a nutritious breakfast on testing days
As much as possible, have a stress free morning prior to sending your child to school
Discuss the importance of the tests with your child and express your confidence in his or her abilities.
Encourage your child to take his or her time, read all directions completely and carefully, and to answer all questions.
Here is another way to break the experience down into time periods:
Before the test
Get plenty of rest, eat a moderate breakfast, practice acalming technique, (taking three deep breaths or other relaxation exercises), and practice using positive affirmations, (“I am capable.” or “I feel good.” or “I am putting forth my best effort.”).
During the test
Read the directionscarefully, pace yourself, (DO NOT RUSH through the test or spend too much time on any one problem), if you go blank-skip the question and go on to the next one, and take a moment to do a few abdominal breaths and say your affirmation, (staying in the present moment).
After the test
Try not to dwell on your mistakes...indulge in something relaxing for awhile.
We thank you for your help in ensuring continued success on these high stakes tests. For more information, check out the Department of Education website at www.ode.state.oh.us
