Hi! I'm Betsy Trouten and this is my 10th year of teaching first grade at Edgewood and the 21st of my career! I've taught kindergarten through third grade, including Reading Recovery, and I have always loved first grade the most! (Don't tell Kindergarten or Reading Recovery, they think I love them more.)
First grade is an incredible year for growth both academically and socially and I love being a part of it! My students teach me something every day and I am totally hooked on seeing them grow in their academics, social skills, and ability to think and be problem-solvers. My students understand that my number one job is to keep them safe because their brains don't learn as well if they don't feel safe. My second job is to help them learn (well of course,) and my third job is to make our time together fun. A sense of humor is a must in this business of preparing little humans for life!
My husband and I live in the area with our children, Faith and Noah, and a little, tan, rescue puppy named Buttercup and another bigger, tan, rescue puppy named Gidget. I enjoy reading, playing with my family, creating all kinds of things with my hands and on the computer, upcycling, Pintersting, and gardening...AND I LOVE TEACHING AND LEARNING!
